Arthur John Gateley KSG was born on 23 September 1882 at Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire. He was R.C. He was the son of
Stephen Michael Gateley KSG JP and
Elizabeth Mary Hill. Arthur John Gateley KSG appeared in the 1891 census at 196 Hamstead Road, Handsworth, Staffordshire. He Ampleforth College, York between 1893 and 1901. He was "Evening meals were silent, and on Cup Final night in 1897 he recalls a piece of paper being passed round with "Aston Villa 3 Everton 2" on it, which pleased none of the boys but him."

Arthur John Gateley KSG was "Br Alexius Gately, baptised Arthur John, son of Stephen and Elizabeth (née Hill), born 23 Sep 1882 in Birmingham, was clothed on 3 Sep 1901. He left by his own choice 24 Sep 1902.

Stephen Michael Gateley KSG JP between 1902 and 1910 at St Stephen's, Hartopp Road, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. Arthur John Gateley KSG witnessed the marriage of
Stephen Joseph Gateley and
Winifred Mary Rawlins on 5 July 1905; a Tuesday! Arthur John Gateley KSG was a solicitor and also a cadet in the Birmingham University OTC: he could not ride! On 5 November 1914 at 10 Newhall Street, Birmingham. He married
Emily Gertrude Hodgkiss, daughter of
Henry Edward Hodgkiss and
Elizabeth French Blencowe, on 5 June 1915 at St. Anne's, Birmingham; His parents addressed a telegram of congratulations to "Lieutenant" Gateley, Liverpool. Arthur John Gateley KSG was Captain Gateley was in command of the 1st Manx Service Company, 220 strong in October 1915. He was The Company (then 215 strong) set sail on the Olympic, and joined the 2nd Cheshire Regiment outside Salonika on 13th January. The Company became "A" Company of the 2nd Cheshires. On 3 January 1916. He was ill with Malaria in July 1916. He lived in 1958 at Arrow Old Rectory, Warwickshire. He died on 2 June 1966 at Arrow Old Rectory, nr. Alcester, Warwickshire, at age 83. He was buried at Oscott.
